Dr. Melanie Fratto
Dr. Melanie Fratto grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. She started riding at a hunter/jumper barn and her love of horses has grown ever since.
Dr. Fratto attended the University of Georgia for both her undergraduate and veterinary school education. She graduated from the University of Georgia Honors College with a double major in Biology and Ecology. In veterinary school at UGA, she took advantage of every opportunity to focus on equine medicine, receiving an award for exceptional proficiency in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery.
After graduating veterinary school, Dr. Fratto moved to Lexington, Kentucky and completed an ambulatory internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, focusing on thoroughbred reproduction, neonatal medicine, and emergency care. She continued with Rood and Riddle for a second year as the resident veterinarian on Shadwell Farm, a prestigious thoroughbred operation.
Dr. Fratto is excited to live in the Richmond area and join the Virginia Equine team. When not working, she hopes to explore the trails of Virginia with her quarter horse, Tex, and her dog, Phineus. She is looking forward to meeting and providing care for the practice’s clients and patients.
