Pre-Purchase Examinations
Pre-Purchase Examinations
We are known for the quality and thoroughness of our prepurchase exams. A detailed health and practical history on the horse is reviewed, covering inuries or surgeries in the past, any vices, manners, vaccinations, maintenance, feed, supplements, the buyer’s intended use and seller’s present use. Blood is/can be drawn for chemistry, CBC, drug screen, or Coggins. We check the health of the horse’s systems including conformation and stance, heart, lungs, eyes, teeth, urogenital, digestive system, oral health, temperature, and respiration. We perform a physical exam to assess hooves, any heat/inflammation/lumps, surgery scars or blemishes, and weight. We conduct a neurological assessment, checking coordination, balance, response to stimuli and reflexes. We evaluate flexibility as well as movement at all three gaits, on hard and soft surfaces, straight lines and circles, in hand, on the longe and under saddle. In addition, the buyer can elect to add radiographs of legs and/or joints, as well as ultrasounds in the case of old or rehabbed injuries needing reassessment for the purchasing decision. For your convenience, we offer our dragged and level, footed riding riding ring, 60’ round pen and grassy grounds for these purposes.
